When visiting a litter, a potential owner should ask to see documentation of the litter's parents' clearance from the OFA or PennHIP (USA) for hip dysplasia. The parents also should be free of juvenile cataracts. Afghan Hound's temperament can vary from line to line, hence socialization and obedience training titles should be of more importance than the number of show champions in the parents' pedigrees.
