 Brewer's Blackbird (Euphagus cyanocephalus)
Dr. Lloyd Glenn Ingles © 2001 California Academy of Sciences
Length: 7.5-9.5 in.
Habitat: open areas, lakeshores.
Two medium-sized blackbirds closely resemble one another—this species and the Rusty Blackbird (Euphagus carolinus). In winter they may be found in many of the same regions, but Brewer's Blackbird frequents grassy ares and the Rusty swampy woods. Brewer's gives a strong, rough whistle or a "whirring gurgle"; the Rusty calls tickle-EE", sounding like a mechanical joint that needs oiling.
