 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Dendroica coronata)
Terry Spivey, USDA Forest Service, United States
Length: 4.5-5.5 in.
Habitat: coniferous and mixed forests; woodlands, thickets (migration, winter).
This is one of the most abundant of our warblers, and at times in migration seems to outnumber all the others combined. It has a bright, loud chip call that is easily learned, but recognizing its trilling song takes practice. Audubon's Warbler (the western subspecies) and the eastern Myrtle were long considered separate species.
