Naloxone is a potent opioid antagonist. It is FDA approved for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose with respiratory and/or central nervous system depression. Naloxone can be administered intravenously (IV), intramuscularly (IM), subcutaneously (SC), and intranasally (IN). Naloxone has no effect in people who are not taking opioids. Naloxone can be administered by bystanders, whether that bystander is a person who also uses opioids, a friend, family member, acquaintance or first responder, such as police or firefighter personnel. There are now four different formulations of naloxone that are used in naloxone rescue kits: (1) injectable naloxone that is drawn up out of a vial with a needle into a syringe with a dose concentration of 0.4 mg/1 ml, (2) an auto injector with audio prompts that administers a 0.4 mg intramuscular dose via a retractable needle, (3) a single-step nasal spray that administers a dose concentration of 4 mg/0.1 mL into one nostril, and (4) a multi-step nasal spray. Intranasal delivery has several potential benefits. First, no injection is required which facilitates layperson use because there is no fear nor risk of needle stick injury. Furthermore, the administration of a nasal spray requires less training than the administration of an injection. The IM auto-injector also has benefits. The product was designed such that a layperson could easily and quickly administer naloxone via a one-piece device that instructs rescuers step-by-step, in real time through the process of delivering intramuscular naloxone.

Intestinal helminths and protozoans, as well as vector-borne parasites, have been reported in domestic and stray dogs and cats, with some of them having also been recorded in humans. Why is this happening? Recent studies in Europe revealed that less than 15 out of 100 pet owners know about dipylidiosis, cryptosporidiosis, ancylostomosis, onchocercosis and thelaziosis as parasitic diseases of dogs and cats or the drug they used to deworm their dogs and cats. Only 6 out of 100 pet owners use endoparasiticides monthly and 2 out 100 of cat owners deworm their animals against internal parasites monthly. Dogs in the United States are hosts to a diverse range of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, including A. phagocytophilum, an important emerging canine and human pathogen that causes granulocytic anaplasmosis in people, dogs, horses, sheep and other animals. People with A. phagocytophlium infections may have flu-like symptoms. In the United States, the blacklegged tick and the western blacklegged tick are the primary vectors of A. phagocytophlium. When asked if anti-tick medication had been used on their pets in the past 30 days, only 38 out of 100 cat owners (10 of which were allowed in the home) and 39 out of 100 dog owners (many of whom allowed their dog/s in the house) replied yes.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common inflammatory joint disease affecting a growing part of the elderly. Despite recent advances in the understanding of the cellular and molecular processes involved in OA pathogenesis, curative treatments are still lacking. Pharmacological drugs currently available to treat OA patients only alleviate inflammation and pain but do not slow down, stop, or reverse the progression of the cartilage degradation and other tissue damages. numerous studies have recently highlighted the potential of natural compounds including nutraceuticals, to slow down or treat OA. Among these nutraceuticals, hydroxytyrosol is a bioactive phenolic compound mainly found in olive leaf and oil. It is known for its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has the ability to relieve pain. Procyanidins (PCy) are active polyphenols found in many plants such as grape, pine bark, cocoa and raspberry. PCy from grape seed extract has the ability to decrease inflammation.

Cockroaches play a prominent role in caring and distributing of organisms causing ddiarrhea, dysentery, cholera, leprosy, plague, typhoid fever, and viral diseases such as poliomyelitis are carries by cockroaches. They also carry the parasitic worms such as Taenia, Shistosoma, Ascaris and may cause allergic reactions, including dermatitis, itching, swelling of the eyelids, and more serious respiratory conditions. Conventional insecticides are used as main tool to control cockroach infestations but there are many concerns about the harmful side-effects of these chemical compounds. Essential oils presents a safe alternative for indoor application against cockroaches because of less toxicity to humans and no toxic residues. Among eucalyptus, mint, yarrow, oregano and rosemary oils, oregano oil shows considerable repellent effect.

Extra-CNS bacterial infections such as cellulitis, urinary tract infections, blood poisoning, osteomyelitis, and septic arthritis can trigger, worsen and contribute to the development and spread of dementia, cause cognitive impairments, and possibly increase the risk for dementia among humans. Sepsis significantly increased risk for dementia among intensive care recipients. Hospitalization for pneumonia has also been associated with a significantly increased risk for subsequent dementia. systemic and localized extra-CNS bacterial infections are collectively and independently associated with an increased risk of developing dementia among older US veterans.

Palm oil contains approximately 49 g saturated fat per 100 g oil, as opposed to 17 g in peanut oil, 16 g in soybean oil, and 7 g in canola/rapeseed oil. Consequently, palm oil induces a larger increase in blood concentrations of total cholesterol and low density cholesterol. Palm oil consumption is strongly associated with higher rates of death from myocardial infarction. A supplement of oxidised palm oil (palm oil subjected to heat treatment) and sugar induced glucose intolerance, insulin resistance associated to elevation of blood cholesterol, alteration of hepatic function, high blood pressure and increased production of free radicals in animals.

There are almost 12 million unauthorized migrants currently living in the USA, of which 8.1 million (71 %) originated in Mexico and Central American countries, where gastrointestinal parasites are endemic due to inadequate sanitary conditions. Unauthorized immigrants bypass the mandated medical examination that US immigration authorities impose on those who petition their residency. While all other immigrants who petition for legal residence in the USA must undergo some form of medical examination, only refugees receive treatment for strongyloidiasis, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths (STH). S. stercoralis helminth can cause a lifelong infection due to its capability to re-infect its human host. It is estimated that 5.0 to 10.0 % of Latin America immigrants are infected with S. stercoralis. (Source: Treatment of Infectious Diseases (GPA)

Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, or arsenic may be found in some herbal medicines, added as adulterants due to the belief they could enhance the efficacy of the herbs in their products. However, these heavy metals remain mostly unlabeled. In particular, lead is a regular constituent of traditional Indian remedies. Synthetic drugs, which are added to some herbal products to fortify therapeutic effects. Not all synthetic drug adulterants are labeled as such. Adulterations with synthetic drugs are common in Chinese herbal medicines. Such products have caused acute liver toxicity.

Dietary iron overload has caused shifts from commensalism to pathogenesis by Yersinia enterocolitica, and from latent to acute forms of tuberculosis. The fact that zinc and manganese dietary overload may also increase susceptibility to infection. Rich sources of manganese are whole grains, nuts, leafy vegetables, and teas. Rich sources of zinc are red meat and poultry. Other good food sources include beans, nuts, crab and lobster, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products. If your daily diet include these foods, taking supplements would create zinc and manganese dietary overload making you more susceptible to infections.

Psilocybin is usually referred to as being the main psychoactive compound in hallucinogenic mushrooms, it is in fact a so-called prodrug of psilocin. After ingestion, it is rapidly converted into the active metabolite psilocin. Psilocybin produces an altered state of consciousness by disruption or interruption of the repetitive and pathological pattern of negative and compulsive thoughts present in anxiety and mood disorders and in drug dependence. The current findings suggest that lifetime use of psilocybin but no other classic psychedelic may be especially protective with regard to psychological distress and suicidality. This finding is consistent with data indicating that psilocybin may have the most favorable safety profile of all classic psychedelic substances. Psilocybin in particular may thus hold promise as an innovative mental health intervention and suicide prophylaxis. Source: PubbMed Central (doi: 10.1177/0269881115598338)

My friends keep asking me about the secret of my youthful looks (they say I look 10 years younger my age, not a single facial wrinkle and no doctor bills!). Guys, it's simple: I banned refined sugar from my diet and replaced it with apple flour and honey. I also banned potatoes and all foods with starch as main component or ingredient. This has had not only a powerful cosmetic effect on my looks, but also helped me get rid of pains associated with cellulitis. Besides, I feel 10 years younger, which is significant, because the emotional side of our well-being is very impportant.

Hi, where do you get the apple flour?

candace_077 Tuesday, November 22, 2016 3:38:46 PM
Cleo, I make it myself from dried apples using my home dehydarator. I cut the apples real thin and then dehydrate them until they get crisp and brittle. I use my coffee grinder for flour and a regular chopper for a coarse filling in cookies, pancakes or waffles.

Exposure to cockroach allergens early in life has been associated with recurrent asthmatic wheezing in children with atopy. Control of cockroach allergen exposure may be very difficult, especially in cities. Even pesticides applied by professional exterminators are not effective. Cockroaches isolated from public hospitals have been reported to carry streptococci internally and externally, constituting a continuous source of human infection.

Eradication of H.pylori is likely to increase the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma, but eradication also reduces the risk of gastric cancers by almost 6 times, especially in those with atrophic gastritis. Some studies show that the risk of development of esophageal adenocarcinoma after H. pylori eradication is 10-60-fold lower than the risk of development of gastric cancer if eradication was not undertaken.

Sheep and goats are an important source of infected meat in southern European countries. Tachyzoites of T. gondii have also been detected in the milk of several intermediate hosts, including sheep, goats and cows. Although the results of a recent study demonstrate that, even with a low prevalence of infection in cattle, consumption of beef remains an important source of infection, lamb meat is an important risk factor, as determined by many case-control studies. Seropositive sheep can be assumed to harbor large numbers of tissue cysts in their meat.
