Siberian Husky Owners Talk - Hi, was just reading your comment on the social skills of a husky
Hi, was just reading your comment on the social skills of a husky. I have a 1 year old female that grew up with a Malamute and two miniature dobermans. The malamute was the Alpha female and often started to attack the Husky, going for the throat and dominating. We had to get rid of the malamute as she started throwing her weight around with the miniature dobermans, one bight and that would have been the end. We have since adopted a boxer puppy, the husky is now trying to be the leader of the pack and has mauled my little boxer nearly to death going for the throat, while i was not at home and has only done this once. I supervise meal times and play times and try to keep them apart when i am not there yet i worry that she may too start throwing her weight around and try to dominate the entire household. ANy ideas how to train them or avoid fighting confrontations. She also bolts out the front door if she gets a chance, runs for miles and you literally have to get in your car to catch her, if you can catch her! She stopped the traffic on a busy main road, we dont let her off the leash when we take her out which is sad cos she loves running, and fast, i run about 4 or 5km with her but she runs faster than me and i can tell she is a bit frustrated.

I have a Siberian Husky and she is just wonderful.
"...I have a Siberian Husky and she is just wonderful. I took her to a GREAT trainer when she was six months old and she became a terrific student. Living on a farm with no fenced-in area for her, she isn't really trusted to be off leash outside. She had the tendency to try to play with the cattle. Her training allows short periods of time where she can run and play under a very close eye. She does dig when she is tied out and bored. She also chews, a lot. (We learned not to park vehicles too close, she chewed on a few license plates, plate frames, and bumpers.) But, she is absolutely wonderful with children..."

I love Siberian Huskies. I have been a husky owner for a long time
"...I love Siberian Huskies. I have been a husky owner for a long time, and I know many othe people who are as well. They are extremely friendly and social, and are usually good with other dogs. They are also very intelligent and stuborn. They can be difficult to train, but not impossible. They can also be destructive when they're bored, but plenty of attention and..."
