Border Collies have developed the reputation of being disease-free. They are hardy by nature and tend to recover more rapidly than most dogs from cuts, breaks and other trauma, but they have medical problems just any other dog breeds. The most common health problems in the breed are hip dysplasia (HD), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), collie eye, and osteochondritis desicans (OD). All of these health problems are thought to be genetic. If you consider buying a Border Collie puppy, make sure his parents have health clearances for these health disorders.
