Brittany Dog Breed
The Brittany, native to and very popular in France where it is called Epagneuls Breton, hunts, points, and retrieves. The name comes from the French province Bretagne where the breed originated in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Brittany is popular as a shooting dog who hunts beyond gun range and has a superb nose. He is agile, light of bone and quick of movement. Friendly and affectionate with household members but wary of strangers, Brittany makes an excellent watchdog. He is good with children and a great house dog but does need plenty of exercise. His great desire to please precludes that he should not be harshly trained.
Friendly and affectionate with household members but wary of strangers, Brittanys make excellent watchdog. They are fine with gentle children and usually get along with other dogs, although some males are aggressive with other males. They get along with other animals, such as cats, if socialized with them early. Without plenty of time and space for playing, these high-energy dogs will develop such undesirable behaviors as excessive barking, hyperactivity, and destructive chewing.
The coat of the long-legged, stubby-tailed Brittany is medium in length, dense , and flat or wavy. Coat color may be dark rich orange and white, liver and white, or black and white in either clear or roan patterns.
The Brittany needs to be brushed and combed twice a week and needs several long brisk walks or runs in a secured area daily.
