The Brussels Griffon is an enchanting small dog with a monkey-like face which was bred in Belgium from a street dog called "Griffon d'Ecurie", or "Stable Griffon". Brussels Griffons were used in stables as rat catchers. The modern Brussels Griffon breed was developed by crossing the original breed with the Affenpinscher and Fox Terrier.
