The Catahoula Leopard Dog, also known as hog dog, is believed to have evolved from the dogs found in the coastal region of the Gulf of Mexico and the Red River (Blue Lakes, or Parish of Catahoula). Aggressive and strong, they were popular for herding wild pigs. The Catahoula Leopard Dog is friendly and loyal to his family, but usually is reserved with strangers and very territorial.
