Majorca Shepherd Dog, Ca de Bestiar
The Majoca Shepherd Dog is a medium-large flock guardian, native to the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain. The breed was developed to work under the extreme conditions of the intense heat. Since this is primarily a working breed, the owners have always focused on the dog's ability to do the job. Very tolerant of pain, the Ca de Bestiar is extremely territorial and known for his courage and willingness to defend his home.
Virtually unknown outside its native country, the Perro de Pastor is quite common there and seen everywhere on farms and rural villages. A few breeders have imported the breed to Brazil and support the Perro de Pastor there. His dark coat requires little care and his ears are usually left natural and the tail is undocked. The FCI recognizes both the short-haired and long-haired varieties of the breed.
Size 19-22 inches at shoulders.
Coat There are two varieties of Majorca Shepherd Dog: short-haired and long-haired.
Color Black or dark brindle.

Majorca Shepherd Dog Owner's Comments
Good afternoon,
I am writing from the Island of Menorca. I have had Ca de Bestiar for almost 3 years. The dog has adapted very well to living in the apartment and he is an ideal dog for my two children of 9 and 12 years old. He is very loyal and does not cause any problems at home.
