Sporting Dogs, Sporting Dog Group
Sporting dogs were originally bred to help hunters locate small game such as birds or to fetch the bodies of birds shot by hunters. Sporting dogs, working dogs, hounds and terriers are genetically predsposed to perform a task instinctively. The sporting group includes pointers, setters, retrievers, and spaniels. Their hunting skills vary according to the purpose for which they were bred. But most of the dogs in the sporting group have some characteristics in common.
First of all, they are intelligent and quick to learn. These dogs can also think for themselves. And when they do, training can be a challenge. sporting dogs are also athletic and busy, especially as puppies. They need daily exercise and activities and will enjoy vigorous play sessions and long walks. They will respond enthusiastically to training challenges.
