Swedish Vallhund

Swedish Vallhund

The Swedish Vallhund originated in Sweden around 500s and was first use for herding cows and ratting. Although small (12-14 inches at shoulder), this breed is powerfully built with lots of energy. The breed bears a striking resemblance to the Welsh Corgi apart from its coat, which tends to be of more subdued color. In its native sweden the main role of the Vallhund is herding.

The breed was recognized by the Swedish Kennel Club in 1948. There is some argument about whether the Vallhund is the ancestor or the descendant of the corgi breeds. In its native country, the Vallhund is also known as Väsgötaspets.
