Butamisole Hydrochloride

Butamisole hydrochloride is an antiparasitic veterinary drug. It is administered by subcutaneous injection to dogs for the treatment of infections with whipworms (Trichuris vulpis), and the hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum). In problem cases, retreatment for whipworms may be necessary in approximately 3 months. For hookworms, a second injection may be given 21 days after the initial treatment.2

Several contraindications may limit its use, such as severely diseased, debilitated or heartworm-positive dogs, animals with kidney or liver diseases. Toxic signs may be vomiting, muscular tremor, unsteady gait, incoordination, and convulsions. 3
