Carprofen

Carprofen (Imadyl, Ridamyl) is a non-narcotic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with characteristic analgesic and antipyretic activity. The mechanism of action of carprofen, like that of other NSAlDs, is believed to be associated with the inhibition of cyclooxygenase activity.

It is used for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs. 2

Adverse reactions may occur with its use. The most frequently reported effects have been gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, changes in appetite, constipation, as well as lethargy, and behavioral changes. 3
