Ceftiofur Sodium
Ceftiofur sodium is an antibacterial drug (cephalosporin antibiotic) used to treat various bacterial infections in domestic animals.
In dogs, it is used for the treatment of canine urinary tract infections associated with E. coli and Proteus mirabilis. 2
Ceftiofur sodium is also used for treatment and control of swine bacterial respiratory disease (swine bacterial pneumonia) associated with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella choleraesuis, and Streptococcus suis.
In cattle, this drug is used for treatment of bovine respiratory disease (shipping fever, pneumonia) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, P. multocida, and Histophilus somni in beef and dairy cattle; and for treatment of acute bovine interdigital necrobacillosis (foot rot, pododermatitis) associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus. 3
In horses, ceftiofur sodium is used for treatment of respiratory infections in horses associated with Streptococcus zooepidemicus.
Ceftiofur sodium has also been used for treatment of various bacterial infections in poultry and sheep.
