Chlorphenesin Carbamate

Chlorphenesin carbamate is a skeletal muscle relaxant chemically related to mephenesin. It is used as an adjunct to therapy of acute inflammatory and traumatic conditions of skeletal muscles. The drug provides relief of the signs of discomfort associated with myositis, muscle sprains, traumatic injuries, and stifle injuries. 2 The mechanism of action is unknown. It is believed that the drug may act on CNS, rather than directly on skeletal muscle, producing a sedative effect that aids in muscle relaxation. 3

Side effects in humans and dogs include diarrhea, urticaria, muscle tremors and vomiting. 4
