Clindamycin Hydrochloride
Clindamycin is an antibacterial agent that is a semisynthetic analog of lincomycin which is used to treat various bacterial infections. It inhibits the production of bacterial protein, thus stopping the growth of bacteria. Clindamycin is prepared as hydrochloride or phosphate salts, which are water-soluble, or clindamycin palmitate for oral administration.
DRUG CLASS Antibiotic
Therapeutic Uses Clindamycin is used in dogs and cats to treat periodontal disease, osteomyelitis, dermatitis, and deep soft tissue infections caused by Gram-positive organisms. It is also used to treat toxoplasmosis in dogs and cats. It is administered orally or intramuscularly.

DOGS Clindamycin Hydrochloride is used in dogs for the treatment of skin infections (wounds and abscesses) due to susceptible strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus or S. intermedius), deep wounds and abscesses due to susceptible strains of Bacteroides fragilis, Prevotella melaninogenicus, Fusobacterium ecrophorum, and Clostridium perfringens, dental infections due to susceptible strains of S. aureus, B. fragilis, P. melaninogenicus, F. necrophorum, and C. perfringens, and osteomyelitis due to susceptible strains of S. aureus, B. fragilis, P. melaninogenicus, F. necrophorum, and C. perfringens [2].
Toxicity In dogs and cats side effects are rare. Neuromuscular blockade may occur at high doses or when this drug is used with anesthetics.
