Corticotropin
Corticotropin is a natural hormone, which results from a 39 amino acids formulated into a gel. It stimulates normal synthesis of cortisol and other hormones from adrenal cortex.
Corticotropin is used in small animals for stimulation of the adrenal cortex where there is a general deficiency of corticotropin (ACTH).
Intramuscular injection of the drug is used as a diagnostic aid to evaluate adrenal gland function. Intramuscular injections in dogs and cats are also used for stimulation of the adrenal cortex where there is a general deficiency of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). 1,2
