Cythioate
Cythioate is a veterinary insecticide. It is an organothiophosphorus compound.
In dogs it was for control of fleas. This drug is not used in greyhounds or in animals that are pregnant, sick, under stress, or recovering from surgery. 1,2
Cythioate is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral dosing with maximum drug effect for up to eight hours after administration. Fleas, ticks, and mange mites are killed when they ingest the bdy fluids of the host. The compound is rapidly eliminated from the body. 4
Although the drug showed some efficacy, it has been withdrawn from the market in the United States and receives little use elsewhere. 3
