Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic analogue of hydro-cortisone that has a long history of use in veterinary medicine for the treatment of a range of metabolic diseases and inflammatory disorders in companion and farm animals. Animal diseases in which dexamethasone is an effective treatment include inflammation, acetonaemia, non-specific skin disease, shock and stress. Its use in animals is primarily therapeutic.
