Dichlorophene

Dichlorophene is a nontoxic laxative vermicide, a drug that kills worms, particularly those in the intestine. This anticestodal agent is effective for tapeworm (taenia) infestation. Dichlorophene tends to produce colic and nausea. It is also used as a veterinary fungicide, anthelmintic, and antiprotozoan. ¹

In dogs and cats dichlorophene is used as an aid in the removal of tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis and Dipylidium caninum). ² In combination with toluene, dichlorophene is used for the removal of ascarids (Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala) and as an aid for the removal of tapeworms and Echinococcus granulosis. ³
