Epsiprantel

Epsiprantel is an antiparasitic veterinary drug indicated for the removal of canine tapeworms Dipylidium caninum and Taenia pisiformis in dogs and for the removal of Dipylidium caninum and Taenia taeniaeformis in cats. 2 It is chemically related to praziquantel. The drug exhibits good activity against common tapeworm infections in cats and dogs. The drug is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract allowing the compound to be in contact with the parasites for a prolonged period. 3

Epsiprantel is not used in animals less than 7 weeks of age. Safety of use in pregnant or breeding animals has not been established. 4
