Fomepizole
Fomepizole is an antidote, an agent that counteracts a poison. It is used in confirmed or suspected methanol or ethylene glycol (antifreeze) poisoning. It inhibits alcohol dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the initial steps in the metabolism of ethylene glycol and methanol to their toxic metabolites.
Fomepizole is used to treat dogs for ethylene glycol poisoning. This drug may also be effective in cats at high dosages. This drug is administered intravenously. 1
