Meclofenamic Acid

Meclofenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent with analgesic activity also used to control fever. It inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis. Meclofenamic Acid is used as the sodium salt for treatment of arthritis and osteoarthritis. 1 Meclofenamic acid is chemically related to mefenamic acid.

Meclofenamic acid (Arquel Granules) is used in horses for the treatment of acute or chronic inflammatory diseases involving the musculoskeletal system. This drug should not be administered to horses with active gastrointestinal, hepatic, or renal disease. 2

Meclofenamic acid (Arquel Tablets) is used in dogs for the relief of signs and symptoms of chronic inflammatory disease involving the musculoskeletal system. 2

Adverse side effects in dogs include aplastic anemia (rare). 4
