Primidone
Primidone belongs to the anticonvulsant class of drugs. The drug raises the body's electroshock or chemoshock seizure theshold and thus alters seizure patterns. The drug is metabolized by and affects a specific set of liver enzymes. Several other drugs onterfere with these liver enzymes, and thus may increase or decrease the clearance of primidone from the body or vice versa, potentially increasing the risk of side effects or decreasing effectiveness. As these are too numerous to list, you should always check with your veterinarian prior starting a new medication, herbal, or nonprescription product. This drug interacts with St. John's wort, kava kava, and gotu kola. It requires periodic blood monitoring.

This drug is used for the control of convulsions associated with idiopathic epilepsy, epileptiform convulsions, viral encephalitis, distemper, and hardpad disease that occurs as a clinically recognizable lesion in certain entities in dogs.
