African Butterfly Cichlid

African Butterfly Cichlid (Anomalochromis thomasi) belongs to the family Cichlidae (cichlids). This species is commonly found in freshwater habitats in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. Males are 4 inches long; females are much smaller. The species is rather territorial but also tolerant of other species. This species accepts wide range of foods, both vegetable and livefood components are recommended. The aquarium should be well planted, with hiding places and flat topped or smoothly rounded pebbles. Water chemistry is not critical, but soft, slightly acid conditions are best for breeding. (Source: 500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish: A Visual Reference to the Most Popular Species. Greg Jennings)
