Havanese Blog

The Havanese has a silly, friendly temperament which is unlike many other toy dog breeds. It is at home with well behaved children and most other pets, and is rarely shy or nervous around new people. Clever and active, they will often solicit attention by performing tricks. The Havanese Blog welcomes Havanese breeders as well as current Havanese owners to share their knowledge of this wonderful dog breed. We hope that this information will help prospective Havanese owners to raise happy and healthy Havanese dogs and puppies.

LOVE our Havanese

We recently got our little boy Havanese and are totally in love with him. He has added so much to our lives; is sweet, funny, playful, loving, smart, and just the greatest.

Our Havanese Boy

Santa brought "Buddy" to us for the holidays this past December. He's just over 6 months now and we love him to pieces. He's white with a very little bit of cream mixed in. He's registered as a pure bred pup and we were interested in finfing out if he's breedable. Any feed back would be appreciated. We're located in Central NJ. Thanks Amy

Just found this

I've been looking for a place to chat with other Havanese owners, but it looks like this place isn't used by many or very often. I do hope to connect. I have 2 Havanese, but both are altered and we have no plans to breed. We adore our babies and they are terribly spoiled. The 8-month-old male has a beautiful blond coat with white color and sable ears and face. The 14-month-old female is a gorgeous white with sable tipped ears. Duffy's coat is wavy and perfect, but Holly has so many mats, I can't keep up. We keep them both in short puppy cuts, but no amount of grooming stops Holly's production of mats all over her body. I blow dry her after baths, brush, comb, use conditioner, etc. What else can I do?

running

We own an 8 month old Havanese female, the joy of our lives and a 3 yr old labrador. I jog on a golf course with my lab and the Havanese puppy loves to run with us. She has plenty of stamina and is energized when we finish. We run about 2 miles 5 days a week. Is there any reason why I should not take her with us when I jog? Thanks for any help.

diva dog

Hello.. I was wondering if anyone has a Havanese like this? Our dog is 1 1/2 yrs old and pretty much since we have gotten her she has been a strange dog. I have never had a dog that when you call her she looks at you (as if to say... uhhh no) and heads the other way. She also acts like your going to beat her and believe me she has never been even yelled at. I know the breeder and her other siblings are friendly and are all over you. She is also very vocal. She hardly ever gives kisses (except to the grandkids). I just don't understand her demeanor. Her father belongs to one of my daughters and he is a sweetheart. The mother belonged to my other daughter and she was very strange too. we think she was maybe mistreated before my daughter got her. She didn't like anyone but my daughter. My dog is litter box trained and never goes on the floor. I just wish I could figure out why she acts to afraid sometimes and so standoffish other times. Any ideas?
