Havanese Dog Breed
This long-coated, spitz-tailed, high-spirited little dog was once the pampered favorite of rich Cuban families, especially those living in the capital, Havana. The Havanese is an alert, intelligent, responsive, affectionate and absolutely non-aggressive dog. It is wary of strangers and makes an excellent watchdog.
Havanese dogs are an active, lovable breed. This is an ancient breed that was developed primarily by the Spanish and Italians.
These dogs are recognized by their flowing silky coats. The Havanese is very intelligent and very trainable. They are known to perform very well in obedience training. These are also extremely desirable family pets. They behave wonderfully around children. Many people with allergies can live sneeze-free with this Bichon Frisé relative, also called the Havana Silk because that's how its profuse straight, wavy or curly coat feels. Owners claim Havanese are intuitive and able to tell what their people are thinking. They're quick studies, whether it's advanced obedience or discerning which of the kids is the softest touch for treats. The Havanese can be noisy and destructive when being left alone for long hours. These dogs require lots of human attention and suffer from separation anxiety.

My Havanese will be 15 years old in August and is absolutely the best dog you can imagine
My Havanese will be 15 years old in August and is absolutely the best dog you can imagine. While definitely showing signs of age (poor hearing, sight and climbing or jumping issues) at times she still acts like a puppy. She is absolutely the most affectionate loyal dog I have ever seen. I can put "Charlie" in a sitting position on the sofa against a cushion and she will stay there until I tell her "okay." She is incredible around children and has never, ever, acted aggressive around anyone. She used to run up to other dogs as if to be aggressive, but when she gets to them she just doesn't know what to do. Now she isn't interested in any other animals and prefers to sit on the back of our sofa (like a cat) and peer out the window to see what's going on. She spends a great deal of time sleeping these days. They DO NOT shed and their coat is very soft, particularly the tail and ears. I highly recommend this breed, especially if you have children. You will not regret it. By the way, Havnaese do bark when people come to the door or the door bell rings. I was told they can be trained not to do this but we never did that. Nowadays Charlie can't hear well so sometimes I can actually answer the door and she doesn't even wake up. Very cute.

Just found this
I've been looking for a place to chat with other Havanese owners, but it looks like this place isn't used by many or very often. I do hope to connect. I have 2 Havanese, but both are altered and we have no plans to breed. We adore our babies and they are terribly spoiled. The 8-month-old male has a beautiful blond coat with white color and sable ears and face. The 14-month-old female is a gorgeous white with sable tipped ears. Duffy's coat is wavy and perfect, but Holly has so many mats, I can't keep up. We keep them both in short puppy cuts, but no amount of grooming stops Holly's production of mats all over her body. I blow dry her after baths, brush, comb, use conditioner, etc. What else can I do?

Our Havanese Boy
Santa brought "Buddy" to us for the holidays this past December. He's just over 6 months now and we love him to pieces. He's white with a very little bit of cream mixed in. He's registered as a pure bred pup and we were interested in finfing out if he's breedable. Any feed back would be appreciated. We're located in Central NJ. Thanks
Amy
