Shetland

The exact origin of the Shetland pony is not known. It is the smallest of Britain's native pony breeds and is thought to be descendent from ponies found in the Shetland Islands where it was used in coal mines and carrying heavy weights. The Shetland pony is very populat in Europe, Australia and the Americas. It is a very sturdy animal with a strong will, but also of quiet disposition which makes it an ideal child's riding pony.
