The Missouri Fox Trotter is a strong saddle horse with a characteristic broken gait known as the "fox-trot" which allows a very comfortable riding. The fox-trot occurs when the horse walks briskly with its front feet and trots with the back feet. Fox Trotters stand 14 - 16 hands and come in all solid colors the sorrel being the most common. The Fox Trotter is used as an all-purpose pleasure and show horse.
