Gland
An organized aggregation of cells or tissue that removes specific substances from the blood, alters or concentrates them, and then either releases them for further use or eliminates them. A gland usually consists of epithelium. Endocrine glands release into the bloodstream specific chemical messengers called hormones, which regulate many functions of an organism. Adrenal glands secrete several types of hormones.
