Coal tar dyes; aniline is a colorless to brown liquid that darkens with age. It used as synonym for coal tar dyes and refers to a large class of synthetic dyes made from products obtained from aniline. Used in the manufacture of hair dyes, medications, resins, and perfumes, carbons, fur dying, rubber, photographic inks, colored pencils, and crayons. Most are somewhat toxic and irritating to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes but are generally much less toxic than aniline itself.
