Kinins
A generic term used to describe a group of polypeptides with related chemical structures and pharmacological properties. Kinins dilate and constrict arteries; they cause lowering of blood pressure and are involved in overall regulation of blood pressure either by direct action or by causing the release of chemical mediators, such as histamine, prostaglandins, catecholamines, and angiotensins. Kinins also help regulate renal electrolyte and water secretion. Cardiac effects of kinins, which include increased heart rate and stroke volume, serve to elevate cardiac output.
