Multiple myeloma

A disseminated neoplasm of marrow plasma cells. Also called malignant plasmacytoma, plasma cell myeloma, and myelomatosis. The disease infiltrates bone to produce lesions throughout the skeleton. IN late stages, it infiltrates other vital body organs. The disease strikes mostly males older than age 40 and carries poor prognosis. Causes include genetic factors and occupational exposure to radiation.
