Nystagmus
A rapid, rhythmic side-to-side movement of the eyeball seen in diseases of the brain. It usually involves both eyes and it often increases when an individual looks in a particular direction. The condition can be congenital or acquired later in life. Some forms of nystagmus accompany poor vision, as is found in albinos, people with extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, or people who have scarred retinas. Treating the cause of nystagmus may resolve the condition; it is often permanent.
