Pyruvate kinase
PK; An erythrocyte enzyme which takes part in metabolism of glucose. An abnormally low PK level is an inherited autosomal recessive trait that may cause a red cell membrane defect associated with congenital hemolytic anemia. serum PK levels range from 9 to 22 U/g of hemoglobin (Hg); in the low substrate assay they range from 1.7 to 6.8 U/g of hemoglobin. Low serum PK levels confirm a diagnosis of PK deficiency.
