Neutrophil
A mature white cell, formed by bone marrow and released into the circulating blood, where neutrophils normally represent from 54-65% of the total number of leukocytes. Neutrophils are phagocytes (phago means to eat or swallow) that accumulate at sites of infection, where they ingest and destroy bacteria. Neutrophils are usually the first white blood cells to arrive to fight infection or foreign invaders. After releasing bacteria-killing enzymes, the neurtophils then ingest micro-organisms and foreign particles.
