German Longhaired Pointer (Langhaar)
The German Longhaired Pointer, also known in Germany as Deutscher Langhaar Vorstehhund, (Langhaar), is a sturdy, never coarse-appearing pointer with a solid liver coat that is shiny and wavy. In size he is comparable
to the other German pointer, but his long coat sets him apart. Never silky, the coat is of moderte length and rather harsh in texture. Whit spots
or a white chest often occur.
Not simply a German Shorthaired Pointer with long hair, the Langhaar descends from similar ancestors as the Shorthair and the Wirehair, most probably the Water Spaniel. The German Longhaired Pointer is distinguished from the GWP by its wavy longer coat and larger size, standing up to 27.5 inches at the shoulders. He has fringing on the ears. which never exceeds 2 inches in length. His hunting affinity centers on feathered game and he is a pro in the water.
The Langhaar is an enthusiastic hunter and he must be provided an outlet for his energy. He is a fun-loving, easy-going dog that enjoys being with his master. Although hunting is a passion for him, other outdoor diversions can be undertaken and enjoyed. As long as he has creative outlets fro expending his energy (running, long walks, hunting), he is a sweet-natured dog that is "a big friend of the whole family." He enjoys being useful, and is easily trainable.
