American Curl Cat Breed

American Curl The American Curl cat has lively personality showing interest in all activities around him. He is also a very "people oriented" cat. American Curl cats enjoy being with their humans and are very intelligent, affectionate and loyal. American Curl owners around the world greatly enjoy the loyal temperament of this cat.

This cat breed's name makes its origins clear: American because it was first discovered in Lakewood, California, and Curl because of its attractive curled ears. Set on the outer corners of the head, the ears cure back in a smooth arc away from the face. Insides of the ears are full of tufts of fur that stick out like antennae. Firm cartilage makes the ears quite hard to the touch. This cat's unique ears are the result of spontaneous mutation rather than genetic engineering.

Since the gene that transmits the curvature of the ear is dominant, the peculiarity needs only to be present in a single parent to be passed on. The cartilage of the ear does not start to curve or harden until the fourth day of life, and the curvature does not take its final form until the fourth month.

The American Curl is amedium-sized cat. By the time it is fully mature, between 2 and 3 years of age, it weighs from 7 to 11 pounds.

In the long-haired variety, the coat is moderately long and smooth, without an undercoat, and not at all woolly. The coat has a glossy shine and a silky texture that is very pleasing to the touch. The Shorthair American Curl has a thick, non-woolly coat, also very soft and silky.

Personality The American Curl is described as mischievous, curious, placid, playful, even-tempered, lively, adaptable, affectionate, intelligent and thieving. they are said to be like kittens all their lives.
