Guinea Pigs, or cavies are fairly large rodents with robust bodies, short legs, large head and eyes and short ears. The domesticated cavy can live up to 9 years.
Guinea pigs can be of single or more than one color with smooth, short coats or long or rough coats. Guinea Pigs are usually very hardy and healthy animals, but they may have some common ailments. They are vegetarians and usually weight up to 3 pounds. Cavies do best in pairs. They make good pets for older children.
