Working Dogs

Some dog breeds have proved their versatility in performing such jobs as herding, guarding, hunting, retrieving, hauling, or rescuing, sniffing for drugs or other goods, alerting deaf owners to suspicious noises, or serving as therapy dogs in hospitals and nursing homes. Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds are excellent police dogs and property guardians as well as search-and rescue workers. Training a dog for a particluar job usually starts very early, takes a long time and requires careful selection.
