Rufous-sided Towhee

Rufous-sided Towhee

This spectacular large, long-tailed, red-eyed sparrow is known as Red-Eyed Towhee, Joree, Ground Robin, Chewink, Bullfinch, and Rufous-sided towhee. Very active and curious, the towhee has a loud, ringing, distinctive call sounds like "drink teeeee," with "teeeee" being higher than "drink." Towhees feed on insects, seeds, and berries found on the ground. They use their feet as rakes, scratching and kicking both their feet backwards at the same time. Often you cannot see them but will hear them scratching.
