Dogue de Bordeaux Breed

The Dogue de Bordeaux (Bordeaux mastiff) is one of the most ancient French breeds. Sometimes called the French Mastiff, the Bordeaux Mastiff, the Bordeaux Bulldog, or the Bordeaux Dog, this breed was originally used for cattle-droving, big game hunting and property guarding. An extremely cooperative, intelligent and fearless giant, he can never be intimidated and makes an outstanding guardian. With his family he is invariably affectionate, loyal and docile.

Since one of the original purposes of this breed was to protect, the Dogue is dog-aggressive by nature, will not back down in fight and needs to be supervised closely in the presence of other dogs. Having another male Dogue can present a problem because of the dominant personality of Dogues in general.

This is a highly intelligent breed that sometimes tends to be stubborn, but at the same time has an excellent memory. Once he learns a command, he never forgets it. Dogues get along with other family pets and, if introduced early, can make friendly with cats, birds and other dogs.
