Betamethasone Dipropionate

Betamethasone dipropionate is a synthetic adrenocorticosteroid used to reduce or suppress inflammation. Corticosteroids are a class of compounds comprising steroid hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex and their synthetic analogs. In pharmacologic doses, corticosteroids are used primarily for their anti-inflammatory and/or immunosuppressive effects. Betamethasone dipropionate is effective in the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses primarily because of its anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions.2

In dogs, betamethasone dipropionate is used as an aid in the control of pruritus associated with dermatoses; administered by intramuscular injection. In horses, tt is used as an aid in the control of inflammation associated with various inflammatory joint diseases; administered aseptically by intraarticular injection. 3
