Isoflurane is a stable, non-explosive inhalation anesthetic, relatively free from significant side effects. Isoflurane is widely used in dog, cats, birds, and horses and is not contraindicated in any species. It is the current agent of choice for animals with suspected increases of intracranial pressure.

Isoflurane is an active ingredient in the following brand name canine drugs:

  • Aerrane
  • IsoFlo
  • Isoflurane, USP

Isoflurane is used in dogs for induction and maintenance of surgical anesthesia. Metabolism of isoflurane is very low, consequently it has not been associated with organ toxicity.
